NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. — Axion International (OTCBB: AXIH), producer of the world’s strongest recycled composite plastic industrial building products and railroad ties, announced today that Cory Burdick will join Axion as its new Sales Representative after more than three years at TieTek, LLC (TieTek), a Dallas-based competitor in the composite railroad tie industry, as Axion looks to increase sales of its innovative Recycled Structural Composites (RSC).

“We are pleased to bring Cory on board to help strengthen our business development initiatives,” stated Steve Silverman, Axion’s President and CEO. “Cory is an excellent addition to our organization. Not only is he very knowledgeable about the composite railroad tie industry, he has a proven track record of solving customer problems and providing personalized solutions to fit their needs. We are excited to benefit from his highly tuned skill-set and believe his level of expertise supports our stated strategy of expanding our sales efforts in 2011 and beyond.”

In his most recent position, Mr. Burdick was a major contributor to sales in excess of $10 million through new key accounts and distributors at TieTek. Mr. Burdick was responsible for diversifying the customer portfolio from three core accounts to over ten during his employment with TieTek, primarily within the government and transportation verticals. Mr. Burdick also oversaw the development of various corporate growth strategies to meet sales goals within target markets throughout North America. Mr. Burdick graduated from Midwestern State University with a BA in Business.

“I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of such a dynamic and growing company as Axion International,” said Cory Burdick. “My previous experience in the composite railroad tie industry has taught me to believe quality control is the single most important aspect in the manufacturing process of a composite railroad tie. Axion shares this same commitment and I look forward to utilizing my knowledge and experience to help broaden the acceptance of such a quality product to the railroad industry.”

Developed in conjunction with Rutgers University’s Materials Sciences and Engineering Department, Axion’s RSC is inert and contains no toxic materials. It is impervious to insect infestation, will not leach toxic chemicals nor warp. Because it is lighter than traditional materials, transporting RSC is less expensive and reduces energy costs. In addition, RSC is completely recyclable at the end of its functional life.
