10/21/2011 — CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Window- and door-maker Jeld-Wen plans to close its plant in Cheyenne in the next two months, eliminating 112 jobs there.

Operations are expected to stop by Dec. 19. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle (http://tinyurl.com/625n46y ) reported that employees learned about the closure on Thursday and were encouraged to apply for jobs at other plants owned by the Klamath Falls, Oregon-based company.

In a statement, Jeld-Wen said demand for windows and doors has dropped because fewer houses are being built because of the depressed housing market.

The Toronto private equity firm Onex took over Jeld-Wen earlier this month, making an $871 million investment in the company. It was previously controlled by the Wendt family.

It has about 20,000 employees in 22 countries.
