10/09/2011 — Chicago, IL — Roofing, decking and railing manufacturer Tamko Building Products Inc. has added a new distributor, and composite decking manufacturer Trex Co. has entered into a licensing agreement with a manufacturer of outdoor structures to create pergolas from its TrexTrim product.

Tamko and building materials distributor Weyerhaeuser Distribution announced Nov. 9 that Weyerhaeuser is now offering Tamko’s EverGrain composite decking and railing and Tam-Rail railing systems to its customers in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

The agreement comes 2½ years after Weyerhaeuser and composite decking manufacturer, Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc., ended their distribution partnership for AERT’s ChoiceDek composite decking board.

ChoiceDek now is sold exclusively at Lowe’s Home Centers.

“We’re continuing to expand the products we offer dealers,” said David Helmers, director of business development for Weyerhaeuser Distribution in a statement. “We’re confident the [Tamko] products will help dealers capture more of the growing decking market.”

“As we looked to expand our decking and railing systems in the West, it was clear Weyerhaeuser has excellent reach and resources,” added Stephen McNally, vice president of sales and marketing for Joplin, Mo.-based Tamko.

The Trex agreement with Manassas, Va.-based Backyard America was announced last month, just before the start of Deck Expo in Chicago.

Under the licensing agreement, Backyard America will develop and market Trex Pergola kits manufactured from cellular PVC TrexTrim.

“As pergolas become increasingly popular design options for patios, yards and gardens … our agreement with Backyard America [will enable us to] expand our brand beyond the deck,” said Ronald Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex, based in Winchester, Va.

The Trex Pergola kits will be available in a wide range of styles and options.

Each kit will include all the pre-cut components and hardware necessary to install a complete pergola, regardless of whether it is freestanding, attached to a structure, or supported with round or square columns.

Trex said its pergolas are designed to hold up under the force of 140 mile per hour winds in an open environment.
