Trex Becomes Exclusive Provider of PVC Decking And Trim To Two California Capital Lumber Locations

04/05/2011–WINCHESTER, VATrex Company is now the exclusive supplier of PVC decking and trim to the Chino and Healdsburg, Calif., locations of Capital Lumber, a leading distributor of specialty building materials in the Western United States.  Through this agreement, Trex Escapes® decking and TrexTrim™ have displaced previously stocked competitive PVC products.

“Trex has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Capital Lumber, and over the past several years, we’ve consistently proven our commitment to superior product quality, innovation and service,” said Ron Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex.  “This deal is a clear indication that we’re strongly positioned for future market share gains and significant sales increases throughout the West.”

Capital Lumber operates two distribution facilities in California.  Located 65 miles north of San Francisco, the 70,000-square-foot Healdsburg Division is a leader in introducing building products that are both innovative and problem solving.  The Chino Division boasts 40,000 square feet of covered storage positioned on 12-and-a-half acres with product inventoried to meet customers’ immediate needs.  Both locations serve building products dealers throughout California and Western Nevada.

“By adding Trex Escapes and TrexTrim with their ultra-low maintenance, durability and high performance to the already successful and innovative Transcend decking line we feel we have the complete package for our customers” said Sam Sanregret, president of Capital Lumber.  “We now have the opportunity to create more focus in our PVC decking and trim categories by stocking one trusted brand, and we’ve strengthened a mutually beneficial partnership with Trex.”

As a result of the recent deal between Trex and Capital Lumber, several California dealers partnering with Capital’s Chino and Healdsburg distribution facilities now stock both Trex Escapes and TrexTrim instead of competitive brands.  These dealers include Golden State Lumber, Sierra Point Lumber, Mead Clark Lumber, Economy Lumber of Oakland, Burke & Pace and Weyrick Pacific.  In addition, both Andy’s Home Center and Pine Cone Lumber are now stocking Trex Escapes.

“As a result of our expansion with Capital, we’ve laid the groundwork for TrexTrim to take a stocking position at our Fernley, Nev., plant, which will enhance our service levels in our Western markets,” said Kaplan.  “We’re sending a strong message to our competitors that we’re aggressively expanding in that region, and that we’re the only company able to offer distributors and dealers the solid combination of unparalleled brand strength, game-changing product, world class service and companywide financial security.”

This can only mean more growth for Trex. For those of us who love Trex products, that’s a good thing–it means we’ll be able to get them in more locations at some point down the road. Trex products aren’t just beautiful, but also very affordable. I expect this isn’t the last time we’ll see Trex succeeding.

I would definitely say that this move has been good for Trex. Hindsight is always 20/20, but this does seem like it benefited Trex quite a bit, too. I’m wondering how many partnerships like this they have engaged in.
